a message from Christina Fulsom, Executive Director of PATH
In 2000, PATH provided 10,712 emergency services to people in need - in 2007 the number grew to 26,078. Food, shelter, medicine, utilities, life's most basic necessities continue to challenge the daily lives of our neighbors.
Thanks to you, PATH donors, volunteers, and participating congregations, we've been able to help; however, the level of assistance we provide has been reduced over the last few years. Food every 30 days - but only enough to last five days (the reason Tyler needs many food pantries), rent payments - but only for a lucky 100 families in the beginning of the year (until we run out of housing funds), emergency prescriptions - but only one prescription per year, utilities - but only TXU (thanks to TXU Energy Aid), not gas, not water, not propane.
The 2007 statistics presented in this newsletter show how many people we helped and what type of assistance we provided. What this report does not show is how many people we were unable to help simply because we didn't have the resources. It is true that our accomplishments are to be commended. We positively impacted the lives of more than 20,000 families, and we are proud of this accomplishment.
Our success is tempered by the knowledge that we sometimes have to say no - no more food, no more rent, no more utilities, no more medicine. PATH operates like a well oiled machine. The level of assistance we do provide is amazing and only possible thanks to the volunteer hours, monetary and in-kind gifts that allow us to stretch each dollar to levels other nonprofits only dream of.
We are grateful for your help. Your time and your gifts make PATH possible. We need you to be PATH ambassadors, talk to friends who may not know PATH, encourage them to help, and, if you are able to, increase your gift. Your generosity is an investment in the well-being of others. Thank you.
