Programs & Services > Emergency Assistance

The Heart and Soul of PATH
The purpose of The Emergency Assistance Program is to assist the indigent population of Smith County with a variety of services that will give them the encouragement and support they need to reestablish their independence.

PATH is concerned about and interested in the needs of others and strives to empower and encourage those hit hard by poverty to become productive citizens.

The following services are some of the ways PATH is available to help:

  • Utility Assistance
  • Rental Assistance
  • Mortgage Assistance
  • Dental Referrals
  • Emergency Prescription Assistance
  • Fans during hot weather months
  • Blankets during cold weather months
  • Eyeglasses

To determine eligibility for services clients can come into the PATH office and speak with a caseworker.

YES! I would like to make a donation to the Emergency Assistance Program.

For more information about PATH's Emergency Services, contact the PATH office at (903) 597-4044.

Food Pantry
Brown Bag Grocery Program

The Brown Bag program takes up where Meals on Wheels leaves off by providing staple groceries to homebound people. It assists those who are elderly, don't have transportation or are experiencing health issues that keep them from venturing out. Volunteers deliver the groceries once a month.

HOW YOU CAN HELP:

  • Volunteer groups are needed each month to build 600+ bags of groceries.
  • Volunteers are needed to deliver the groceries to a set area of town.
  • $100 provides one sack of groceries each month for a year to one client.

For more information about becoming a Brown Bag Volunteer, contact Debbie Burks at (903) 597-4044, ext. 117, or email her, Debbie_burks@tylerpath.org.

Food of the Month
The purpose of the "Food of the Month" project is to educate the public about special food items that are needed during specific times of the year.

When parents can't feed their children and when elderly people don't have adequate nutrition, our entire community suffers from the effects of hunger.

PATH provides food to 1,200+ families each month and a donation of $25 will help feed three families.

Foods listed by categories per month:

January: Soup ("Souper Bowl Sunday") July: Fruit Juices (Canned and boxed)
February: Sweets (Canned Fruit, Jelly, etc.) August: Macaroni & Cheese
March: Tuna September: Rice, Dried beans, Tortillas
April: Canned Vegetables October: Canned Chili/Stew
May: Baby Food/Formula/Baby Items November: Frozen Turkeys/Hams
June: Canned meals for kids (Spaghettios, Ravioli, etc.) December: Flour, Sugar, Cornmeal

YES! I would like to make a donation to the Food of the Month Program.

As well as food items, personal care items such as shampoo, soap, razors, toilet tissue, etc., are also needed throughout the year.
